Idea: collect unused travel toiletries, and give them to people who can make use of them right now.

Have you ever traveled and stayed at a hotel? Have you ever taken the unopened travel soap, shampoo, mouth wash, shower cap, ear plugs, cotton balls, cotton swabs, or other items from your hotel room, with the thought that you might use them later? We have.

Into Ziploc bags, we’ve put together some travel-size toiletries, and other items that we thought would be useful for people in need of hygienic supplies. Try it! Our bags generally include some mixture of the following kinds of items:

• Liquid soap / bar soap
• Shampoo / conditioner
• Tooth brush / tooth paste / mouthwash / floss
• Shaving cream / shaving oil / travel razors / blades
• Deodorant / hand sanitizer / hand lotions / moisturizers
• Combs / hair brushes / nail clippers
• Small towels / wash cloths
• Ziploc bags (gallon)

Your items don’t have to be travel-sized, and you don’t have to provide every item in every bag. If you get to travel like we do, you probably already have this kind of stuff sitting at home collecting dust waiting for some imagined future usefulness. Some of the most useful items are soap, shampoo, and toothbrush/toothpaste.

If you want to try it, remember that it takes almost no effort to toss one of these bags into your purse, or backpack, and to keep them on-hand while you walk around cities.
